Killers of the Flower Moon
Directed by Martin Scorsese, Killers of the Flower Moon is set in the heart of 1920s Oklahoma, where the Osage Nation, having discovered vast oil reserves beneath their tribal lands, finds themselves thrust into immense wealth. Their newfound prosperity comes at a terrible price — as a series of mysterious murders begins to plague the community.
I think this film will go down as an American classic. You know the performances are great when Leonardo DiCaprio is completely overshadowed by the incredible cast; specifically the performances of Lily Gladstone (as Mollie) and singer/songwriter Jason Isbell (as Bill Smith).
The soundtrack is by the late singer/songwriter, Robbie Robertson — who is best known for his work as the guitarist and primary songwriter for the rock group The Band. This piece is entitled, ‘The Wedding’. Although, rather than a wedding, this motif was used as the backdrop for a quick make-out session between Mollie and Ernest in their car.
Robertson’s musical genius was the low hanging fruit of his riffology. He crafted simple guitar riffs and motifs that his contemporaries would miss altogether. As a founding member of The Band — he’s one of the most influential singer/songwriters in American history.
