All Things New

At some point in your life — you’re going to need help from a higher power. You’ll know when the time comes, because you will have completely run out of earthly solutions. I’ll preface this by mentioning I’m not a goodie two-shoes and a work in progress. However, I’ve been practicing daily, meditative prayer for the last 10 years. The results have been a miracle.

Every morning a wake up early, do 10 minutes of yoga, then pray for 10 minutes or so. The yoga is a critical piece of the puzzle — as it seems to prime my mind, and make it more conductive to God. From my experience, the whole process seems to be cumulative. A few days of prayer plugs the hole in the boat, while 30 days of prayer will begin to turn the ship around and change your life outcomes for the better.

I wrote this song after re-watching The Passion of the Christ (2004). The song’s title stems from a phrase spoken by Jesus in the film’s most emotional and poignant scene; as Mary protectively runs to a stumbled Jesus, where he says to her, “See, mother, I make all things new.” The scene is heart wrenching, as Jesus is momentarily distilled from Christ — to Mary’s child.

I wondered if that was an actual biblical passage. As it turns out, the phrase is from Revelation 21:5 – a powerful verse which describes a vision of the new heaven and new earth. “And He who was seated on the throne said, Behold, I am make all things new. And He said to me, Write, for these words are true and faithful.
