Prospector Arrives

In the American classic, There Will be Blood — a ruthless oil prospector, Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis) moves to oil-rich California. Using his adopted son HW to project a trustworthy, family-man image, Plainview cons local landowners into selling him their valuable properties for a pittance. However, local preacher Eli Sunday suspects Plainviews motives and intentions, starting a slow-burning feud that threatens both their lives.

Like the film itself, Jonny Greenwood’s avant garde score for There Will Be Blood is one of the best in cinematic history. Greenwood was qualified from the Academy Awards in 2007 on a tiniest of technicalities. Many speculate that his outsider, rock musician status is what really led to his disqualification.

Prospector Arrives is my favorite piece from the film.

How to play Prospector Arrives for classical guitar

I recommend Prospector Arrives for intermediate to advanced guitar players. There’s a chord shape in the chorus section that will require you to be in a fairly low, underneath, and stretched out position.

The guitar tab is only two pages long, and beautifully written. In accordance with he guitar tab, my song structure looks like this:

Intro, Verse 2x, Pre-Chorus, Chorus 4x

Verse 2x, End.

Enjoy. The guitar tab is available below:
