Reclaimed Memories is pretty little guitar piece from The Last of Us Part II soundtrack by Gustavo Santaolalla. The signature of this score is Santaolalla’s use of a 6 string guitar banjo. It was very easy to transfer this song to guitar — as the instruments are played and tuned exactly the same.

Notice how Santaolalla operates in short bursts of playing between space. I believe it’s this style of play that makes his music so compelling for film scores.

Gear used

For this piece I used my Taylor GS Mini Walnut. It a fine small scale acoustic. Very fun to play. You can find a current list of my gear here.

How to play Reclaimed Memories by Gustavo Santaolalla

The guitar tab for this piece is beautifully written across three pages, and played straight through without repeats.

The bar chords will be slightly tricky for novice players. If you have trouble, I encourage you to play through the chord and move on the next note or position. *Do not try to muscle down a chord shape until you “get it”. You never will. It’s always best practice to play through the chord shape no matter how it sounds. It’s the act of moving in and out of a chord shape that allows you to learn the position better and quicker.

Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:
