Fleeting

One of the things that gives Gustavo Santaolalla his je ne sais quoi is the element of surprise within his music. Often times, he’ll have a verse section that is slightly minor keyed, and emotionally ambiguous (perfect for film). Santaolalla will then proceed with a major lift in the chorus section. That is normal operating procedure, but his lifts always have a stark contrast…in a good way. “Fleeting” does just that. Here’s Rick Beato and Sting speaking about the element of surprise in music.

Fleeting is multi-instrumental piece from The Last of Us, and my arrangement is a catchall of those parts. When distilled to a single guitar, you can really see Gustavo Santaolalla’s expert use of Major and Minors. I don’t believe this is a conscience decision, just innate to his being.

The guitar tab for this piece is beautifully written across 4 pages. I recommend it for intermediate guitar players and up. Enjoy! The guitar tab is available below:

My song structure looks like this in accordance with the guitar tab:

Page 1, Page 2, then Verse #2 (1x)

The guitar tab is nearly played straight through.
