Lily’s Theme

Lily’s Theme, by composer Alexandre Desplat, is one of the most poignant pieces of music from the Harry Potter films.

This was was one of the first songs I ever posted — way back in 2011. It was time for a redo as I have much better audio quality — and my guitar style is completely different.

On a side note, I finally watched my first Harry Potter film; The Sorcerer’s Stone. My son, who’s almost 4, is getting into it. It was quite good, and I’m exited to work my way through all of them. I wonder how the music will impact me?

My plan for this blog in the coming weeks and months is to post guitar arrangements of the most affecting music from the Harry Potter franchise. Here’s what is tentatively on deck:

  • Harry In Winter (Goblet of Fire)
  • Underwater Secrets (Goblet of Fire)
  • Hogwarts’ Hymn (Goblet of Fire)
  • A Window to the Past (Azkaban)
  • Dumbledore’s Farewell (Half-Blood Prince)
  • Harry & Hermoine (Half-Blood Prince)
  • Obliviate (Deathly Hallows 1)
  • Farewell to Dobby (Deathly Hallows 1)
  • The Deathly Hallows
  • Harry and Ginny (Deathly Hallows 1)

I qualify Lily’s Theme as relatively easy to play. There are no difficult chord shapes whatsoever. However, you’ll have to be agile — as I have a few quick trills in there.

The guitar tab is two pages long, beautifully written, and played straight through without repeats.

Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:
