Comptine d’un autre été, l’après midi

Comptine d’un autre été, l’après midi (Nursery rhyme from another summer, the afternoon) is a piece of music by composer, Yann Tiersen. As the principle song from Amelie, it’s by far his most popular song at 326 million plays on Spotify alone.

This piece was recommended to me a few times over the years. While I’ve never seen the movie Amelie, it’s one of my wife’s most favorite films. I’ve watched a few YouTube reviews and it looks beautiful and lighthearted. I’m excited to watch it soon.

How to play Comptine d’un autre été, l’après midi | fingerstyle guitar

The guitar tab for this arrangement is beautifully written across only two pages. The structure of the song is relatively simple. The trills might be slightly advanced for beginners — but overall, my version is fairly easy to play. Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:

My order of looks like this, in accordance with the guitar tab:

Intro, Section #1, Section #2, Section #3

Section #1, Section #2, Section #3

*Rather than write the triplets on page 2, section #3 (0:54 of the video) I gave you dots indicating the number of times the triplet is played. You’ll see . . . . – meaning you’ll play that triplet 4 times. The guitar tab is much cleaner this way, and easier to read.

You’ll tune your guitar to Open D. From Low to high: D A D F# A D

There’s no need to capo your guitar, but I preferred the sound of my C7 for this piece. That guitar is always left in low and alternate tunings. My C7 is tuned to C G C E G C then capoed on the 2nd fret — bringing us to D A D F# A D.
