The Call of the Wild

The Call of the Wild is a 2020 adventure film based on the Jack London’s 1903 novel (of the same name). The film stars Harrison Ford and is set in the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush. The story follows a dog named Bucky who is stolen from his home in California and sent to the Yukon. Bucky befriends an old man and begins a life-altering adventure.

John Powell is a prolific English composer, best known for his animated film scores. He is also an action film composer, scoring The Bourne films, and Mr and Mrs Smith.

I’m excited to see The Call of the Wild with my son, Matthew. He’s just about to turn 5, and we’re currently in a heavy Indiana Jones phase. When he saw a preview for Call of the Wild on television, he said, “Daddy! There’s a movie about Indiana Jones and a dog!”

How to play The Call of the Wild | fingerstyle guitar

While there are originally guitar parts in this piece, it’s mostly a large orchestration. The song has a big American West feel to it. My idea for Call of the Wild was to sparse it out like Brokeback Mountain 1 – and create a subtle, more vulnerable arrangement of music.

This guitar tab is beautifully written across three pages. My order of play goes like this, in accordance with the guitar tab: Intro, Bridge, Verse 2x, Bridge (end). Pretty simple.

Enjoy. This piece is best for intermediate guitar players and up. The guitar tab is available below:
