Seguir
“Seguir” by Gustavo Santaolalla, is an atmospheric instrumental piece that showcases the Argentine composer’s multi-instrumental talents and minimalist approach. Released in 2014, the track features Santaolalla’s signature use of the ronroco, creating a melancholic yet hopeful soundscape. The instrumental’s title is Spanish for “To Continue” or “To Follow” and it suggests a narrative of perseverance and an ongoing journey. It’s a testament to Santaolalla’s ability to craft deep emotional resonance with seemingly simple arrangements.

How to play Seguir, by Gustavo Santaolalla
I recommend Seguir for intermediate guitar players and up. Although most of the chord shapes are relatively easy to play, the unceasing fingerstyle will give new guitar players some trouble.
Enjoy! The guitar tab is available below:
As mentioned above, I shortened the piece (by one third) for the video. Here’s my song structure in accordance with the guitar tab:
Verse 2x, Chorus 1, Chorus End
Verse 2x, Chorus 2, Chorus End.
[guitar tab] **Gustavo Santaolalla: Seguir (for guitar)
Seguir is played in an Open F tuning; tune your guitar to Open D from low to high: D A D F# A D. Then place a capo on the 3rd fret.
However, I like when the fret dots line up as normal so I tuned my guitar one 1/2 step lower, from low to high: Db Ab Db F Ab Db, or depending on your tuner: C# G# C# F G# C#. Then I put a capo on my 4th fret. I feel like the neck is easier to read like that — but I’m oddly dot dependent.
