The Bones
The Bones is a song by pop/country star, Maren Morris. Six months after its release in 2019, the song was reimagined with Hozier singing the second verse. I love this song, and I’ve been teaching the basic version to my guitar students recently. Hozier really lights it up in the second verse. Had he not been involved with this piece — I doubt The Bones would’ve been on my radar for this blog.
(I was recording during a thunderstorm, and my house got hit by lightning. At 1:20 of the video — you can see the lightning and hear my amp crackle.)

How to play The Bones | fingerstyle guitar
The guitar tab for The Bones is beautifully written across 4 pages. I recommend this arrangement for intermediate guitar players and up. Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:
My order of play for The Bones looks like this:
Intro, Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus
Interlude, Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus
Intro.
I’ve also written the names of the chord shapes above the guitar tab to help you learn your positions and play more efficiently.

In the Chorus section, I’m fretting the F Chords with my thumb on the low E string.
This song is played in standard tuning with a capo on the 2nd fret. However, you can play it in any capo position. Just find the spot where your thumb can easily get the 1st fret note on the (chorus) F Chord. Usually that’s higher up on the neck for most folks.
