Saving Private Ryan

Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan (1998) was the first war film that put the viewer into the battle. You felt the measure of their sacrifice. I was in my early 20’s when I saw it, and I went back to theater to see it 3 more times. It kicked of my fascination with WW2 and War history in general.

[My son Matthew is only 8, so he’ll have to wait a few more years to see it. However, Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk (PG-13) is mild on the violence and has totally captivated his imagination.]

The music in Saving Private Ryan is from the iconic, John Williams. The motif that I’m playing in the video is from the piece, Omaha Beach. This motif is used throughout the film. I consider it to be the main theme.
