First Love and the Falling Snow

I wrote “First Love and the Falling Snow” for my wife, Jennifer — as we approach our 23rd Wedding Anniversary in just a few days. Foremost in my memory is one of our early dates in 1998. (As a couple, it was that time, where you’re just a few weeks in, and your mindset is a blissful combination of nervous anticipation and total comfort.)

It was in early December, and we decided to have a movie night. As you did in 1998, we went to a local Blockbuster — where the entire outdoor mall was decorated for Christmas. After making our selection, we returned to my car as a dusting of snow flurries came down. As we both opened our doors, Jen looked over at me and smiled — as light snow flakes were falling against her dark brown hair. I remember thinking, “I am the luckiest guy on earth”.

Although short, this song never repeats a section and is a continuation of feathery motifs. I was thinking of winter with the deep guitar tone, the whimsical ways of falling snow flakes, and the life that we still build together.

How to play First Love and the Falling Snow | fingerstyle guitar

The guitar tab for this piece is beautifully written across 2 pages. You play the piece straight through without repeats. At the end, I’m playing the 3 note interval 7x, indicated with 7 dots ( . . . . . . . ) which makes the tab look cleaner.

I recommend this piece for beginner guitar players and up. Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:

**First Love and the Falling Snow – Evan Handyside (minimalist, ambient guitar)
