Everything In Its Right Place

It’s hard to believe that Radiohead’s Kid-A was released exactly 24 years ago. The record is still one of the most futuristic albums you’ll ever hear. The opening track, “Everything In Its Right Place”, was also used as the opening of Cameron Crowe’s Vanilla Sky (2001).

The scene is both eerie and captivating. As the song sets an unsettling yet strangely calming tone, we see David Aames (Tom Cruise) driving a Ferrari 250 GTO through an utterly deserted Times Square. The emptiness of this usually bustling iconic location creates a surreal and dreamlike atmosphere.

The Ferrari 250 GTO is the dream car of just about everyone the world over. It’s the holy grail. Just 36 vehicles were made between 1962 and 1964. Owning one is to be a member of a very exclusive club. The last known sale was a private transaction in 2018, reported to be between 70-80 million. A GTO is expected to sell at auction for 100 million within this decade.

Everything in its Right Place is also used in the opening episode of Day of the Jackal (Eddie Redmayne).

How to play Everything In Its Right Place | fingerstyle guitar + TAB

The guitar tab is for Everything In Its Right Place is beautifully written across 2 pages. You’ll play the tab straight through, taking care to repeat with the brackets. While the chord shapes are easy to play, the tempo and pacing will give beginner guitar players some trouble. I recommend this piece for intermediate guitar players and up.

Radiohead is so otherworldly creative, that I’m at a loss for words. I mean, how do they arrive at riffs like these? The maturity of Thom Yorke to let his voice slink back into the rhythm and *not upstage the music. We can see why, at 30 years onward, Radiohead is still the standard of progressive alt-rock.
