Rain
I wrote “Rain” in 2019 for the short film, Broken Noons, by Guillermo L. Vázquez. The film went on to receive the official selection of several international, independent film festivals. In Barcelona, actress Josi Lage was nominated for ‘Best Actress,’ and I was nominated for ‘Best Score.’ I’m still not entirely sure what became of that particular film festival, given the 2020 pandemic swept in and cancelled everything.
I’m a huge fan of composer Gustavo Santaolalla and his work with director Alejandro González Iñárritu. In their collaborations, Gustavo’s melodies are linear and seamless—the music truly accompanies the film, never cueing sentimentality or forced emotion.
“Rain” was my first attempt at creating that kind of linear music—a minimal, elegant short piece that could accompany anything: a film monologue, a fragrance commercial, or a yoga playlist. My intention was to create something with no fluff, no wasted movements.
To this day, it remains my favorite piece I’ve ever written.
I initially released it on my Garden Tomb EP in 2021, but I felt it deserved its own single format, so I’ve recorded and released this new single version.

The guitar tab for Rain is beautifully written across 3 pages. I recommend this song for beginner and intermediate guitar players, though the relentless fingerstyle might be difficult for newer guitarists.
Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:
My song structure, looks like this, in accordance with the guitar tab:
Intro, Verse 2x, Chorus
