Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace is about a father (Ben Foster) and daughter who live an off-the-grid existence in a National Forest Park/nature preserve near Portland, Oregon. They rarely making contact with the outside world. However, a small mistake tips them off to authorities, and they are sent on an increasingly erratic journey in search of a place to call their home.
Ben Foster is one of the best. I hope this leads to an Academy Award nomination and win for Best Actor. I recently watched and Interview with writer/director Taylor Sheridan (Sicario, Hell of High Water, Wind River) where he was asked — of all the actors you’ve worked with, who would you like to write for again, specifically? Sheridan said unequivocally, Ben Foster.
Dickon Hinchliffe is a multi-instrumentalist composer (Peaky Blinders, Out of the Furnace, and Winter’s Bone). His score for Leave No Trace is in the vein of a Nick Cave and Warren Ellis soundtrack. There’s folksiness to the music — like Tom Waits could recite poetry over top of it. My favorite piece is the closing theme, entitled Sunshine.
