Fargo

The FX anthology series Fargo, is a dark comedy crime drama inspired by the 1996 Coen brothers film of the same name. The series is set in various locations in the American Midwest, and each season tells a new crime story with a new cast of characters.

The show’s theme song is by composer, Jeff Russo (whose also the lead guitarist for the 90’s Alt-rock band, Tonic). It’s a haunting ballad that perfectly captures the show’s dark and quirky tone. When I first listened to this piece, the melancholy motif struck me as kinda Russia-sounding; as though it could’ve been from Eastern Promises.

I easily arranged the piece for guitar, and I have to think that’s because Jeff is foremost: a guitarist. Fargo turned out to be one of those tunes that sounds classical and sophisticated — but is relatively easy to play.
