Daily Battles

Motherless Brooklyn is a 2019 American neo-noir crime film written, produced and directed by Edward Norton. It’s based on the 1999 novel (of the same name) by Jonathan Lethem. Motherless Brooklyn is set in New York City in 1957. The film follows a private investigator with Tourette syndrome, who is determined to solve the murder of his mentor.

The Motherless Brooklyn score is by composer Daniel Pemberton. He has long been one of my favorite composers. This score, along with his work on The Counselor might be his best selections . The trumpet-driven jazz soundtrack is from Wynton Marsalis.

Both the score, and the soundtrack of Motherless Brooklyn, are meditations of the dystopian ‘Daily Battles’ – written by Thom Yorke & Flea. I’ve incorporated Pemberton’s motifs during the intro and outro of this fingerstyle arrangement.

How to play Daily Battles | fingerstyle guitar

The guitar tab for Daily Battles is beautifully written across two pages. This song is very easy to play, and perfect for beginner guitar players.

Rather than pluck the first and second string with two fingers, I just use a single finger to “brush” the high notes. I think this approach is smoother and sounds better. Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:

Daily Battles is played in an easy trick tuning: E G D G B E. We’re only tuning the A string down to G. You’ll then put a capo on the 3rd fret.
