Tears In the Rain
I would also strongly add Vangelis as the principal composer of this song. “Tears In Rain” minus a (the) is from the original iconic Blade Runner (1982) soundtrack.
Tears in the Rain is nearly a verbatim replicant (sorry had to) of the original Vangelis piece.
However, legendary Hans Zimmer and the world class Benjamin Wallfisch (Dunkirk, IT) were essentially chasing the original score per direction from Dennis Villanueve.
Johann Johannsson (Sicario, The Theory of Everything) had written the Blade Runner 2049 score — but director Dennis Villanueve wanted something closer to the original Vangelis score.
Johann Johannsson was replaced by Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch only a few months ago.
My impression is that the Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack is a very good “light” version of the original score by Vangelis — and it’s no doubt appropriate for the film.
However, I can’t help but wonder what composer Johann Johansson did on the film in the first place…
Both Tears In the Rain, and it’s predecessor, Tears in Rain are nearly identical but I stayed closer to the Vangelis original.
Please check my arrangement of the similar, Blade Runner 1982 Theme, it’s truly some of my best work.
Gear Used
For Tears in the Rain, I used my Cordoba C7. It’s relatively inexpensive classical guitar. As you can hear, it’s an incredibly warm sounding guitar. In the future, I might opt for a spruce top C7, rather than the cedar on my guitar above. I play with my fingertips (not nails) which adds warmth and bass. The Spruce top would be a bit brighter sounding.

Tears In the Rain is easy to play and perfect for intermediate guitar players. My fingerstyle technique is something I picked up from watching Gustavo Santaolalla. I sort of arpeggiated my fingers through the chord — like I’m peeling my fingers off of the strings in succession. Here’s good primer on what I’m doing.
