The Mandalorian and Grogu

This is essentially a reprise of my 2019 arrangement of The Mandalorian Theme — one of my all-time favorite pieces to play. I loved the show, and I’m genuinely excited for the film adaptation, The Mandalorian & Grogu, especially with the brilliant Jon Favreau directing. He just gets it. The man is an extraordinary storyteller — he single-handedly launched the entire modern Marvel universe with Iron Man back in 2008.

Ludwig Göransson composed the original series music and is gloriously helming the film score too. I think he’s figuratively the new Hans Zimmer. His Oppenheimer soundtrack is the most magnificent score of the past decade — it’s not even close.

With a piece like this, there are a lot of moving parts. When that happens, my instinct is always to dial it back, simplify, and lean into something a little more haunting.

How to play The Mandalorian | fingerstyle guitar

The guitar tab for The Mandalorian is beautifully written across 3 pages. I recommend this song for intermediate guitar players and up. It’s kind of difficult to play. You’ll have to have a flexible left wrist — as you’re sitting in a barred position for most of the song.

Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:

My song structure looks like this in accordance with the guitar tab:

Intro, Main Verse, Interlude 2x

Main Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus 2x

Interlude 4x,  End.

The Mandalorian is played in standard tuning with a capo on the 1st fret.

You’ll note that my guitar has a capo on the 4th fret. My C7 typically sits in a low (one-whole step down) tuning, so that’s why my capo position is higher.

The reason for this; is the near constant barring in the B minor position with The Mandalorian and Grogu. By moving my hand up the neck, closer to my body, I’m much more comfortable playing this piece.
