The Princess Bride

Mark Knopfler wrote the score for The Princess Bride (1987) — not a typical Hollywood hire, which tells you exactly what kind of off-beat film Rob Reiner was making. The main theme, Once Upon a Time…Storybook Love, is built around Knopfler’s signature acoustic guitar, with an orchestral arrangement surrounding it throughout.

For this arrangement, I combined all of those elements into a single fingerstyle guitar piece — melody, harmony, and the orchestral color, all on one guitar.

You’ll play the arrangement straight through without repeats. In a few instances, I wrote the word “thumb” where you should fret the chord shape with your left-hand thumb. That’s all on page 3. The shapes are:
