Cephale

Papillon is a 2017 drama film that tells the story of French convict Henri Charrière (nicknamed Papillon) — who was falsely imprisoned at the Devil’s Island penal colony in 1933. Papillon escaped in 1941 with the help of another convict, counterfeiter Louis Dega.

The film’s screenplay is based on Charrière’s autobiographies as well as the classic 1973 film adaptation starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman.

The score, by composer David Buckley, is gorgeous and makes heavy use choral music using both child and adult choirs. To me, Cephale is the standout musical theme in Papillon.

How to play Cephale | fingerstyle guitar

Cephale is relatively easy to play as the chord shapes aren’t to difficult. The guitar tab is beautifully written across two pages. Here’s my order of play — in accordance with the guitar tab: Section (1) 2x, Interlude 1 — Section (2) 2x, Interlude 2 — Section (1) 2x, Interlude 1.

That’s it, pretty simple arrangement. I hope you enjoy playing Cephale as much as I did.

The guitar tab is available below:

Cephale is played in a drop high E tuning with a capo on the 3rd fret. Here’s your tuning from low to high: E A D G B *D. You’ll then place a capo on the 3rd fret.
