Gustavo Santaolalla: Morning | fingerstyle guitar

Morning

Morning is the central theme from August: Osage County — a highly underrated soundtrack by Gustavo Santaolalla. Much like Brokeback Mountain, the film’s score has Santaolalla exploring uniquely American themes.

Known for his minimalism, Santaolalla uses a subtle, often sparse approach that acts as a quiet observer, reflecting the fractured relationships and unspoken sorrows of the Weston family.

How to play Morning | fingerstyle guitar

Morning is beautifully written across 2 pages. It’s essentially one long passage, played twice. This piece is relatively easy to play; great for beginner and intermediate guitar players.  I like this song as an “étude” that really works Santaolalla’s right-hand technique. Click here to learn that arpeggiated technique.

Enjoy! The guitar tab is available below:

The guitar tab is played twice through. You’ll also take care to repeat the section between the brackets — as indicated in the guitar tab.
