I revisit The Motorcycle Diaries soundtrack often. The whole thing is a masterpiece. I love everything Gustavo Santaolalla does, but for me, the big two are: The Motorcycle Diaries and Brokeback Mountain.

Gustavo Santaolalla’s work on The Motorcycle Diaries (2004) embodies the word, “soundtrack”. I view a (score) as more delicate work (like Brokeback Mountain) coloring the film with music. A soundtrack is more forceful, running in tandem with the characters. The backdrop of a film. The Motorcycle Diaries is a soundtrack — in the truest sense of the word.
