Charleston Girl

Tyler Childers is often described as a “neotraditional” country artist. His soulful, Appalachian sound blends elements of bluegrass, folk, and even R&B. Childers’ lyrics often explore themes of rural life, and the human experience.

While I love nearly all of his music, “Charleston Girl,” featured on his acclaimed album Live at Red Barn Radio I & II, is my absolute favorite. The song has some pretty raw storytelling — as he paints a vivid picture of a woman struggling with addiction and heartbreak.

I messed around with this arrangement for a week or so, and settled on an abbreviated version. It captures all of the main sections, and presents as singular fingerstyle piece — rather than a sing-along instrumental.
