We remain
“We remain” is a song (and EP) I just released in the post-classical genre — if there is such a thing within the fingerstyle guitar space.
I’m a huge fan of composer Max Richter, and I’m always amazed at how he finds relatively simple chord progressions that are just deep with emotion. Within those progressions there’s usually a slight melody weaving through as intensity slowly builds. On the Nature of Daylight is a perfect example — so is Hans Zimmer’s Time.
With “We remain – a sketch,” I tried to do exactly that: a simple chord progression repeated while I modulate the intensity. The EP itself is a small collection of recent tracks — “Embers,” “Your hand, a map of oceans,” and “Rain” — that form a kind of story, a through-line leading to “We remain – a sketch.” The whole thing is rather pensive, and I’m not entirely sure what story I’m telling. I suppose that’s for the listener to decide.
