First Flight

The Last of Us HBO sees composer Gustavo Santaolalla retooling and abbreviating many of his most famous pieces from the original game soundtracks. “First Flight” is actually the bridge section of “Unbroken” from The Last of Us Part II.

This makes it a great little étude for beginner and intermediate players. An étude is a focused musical study — a short piece built around one specific technique. Think of it as purposeful practice disguised as music. You’re drilling a skill, but you’re also playing something worth hearing.
