The Theory of Everything

The Theory of Everything (2014) is a  biographical romantic drama film set at the University of Cambridge. It details the life of the theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking. The exquisite music, by the late Johann Johannsson, won the Golden Globe for best score.

This has long time been one of my favorite pieces to play on guitar. It is so uplifting.

How to play The Theory of Everything | fingerstyle guitar

The guitar tab for The Theory of Everything is beautifully written across two pages. The guitar tab is essentially one long passage played twice. I recommend this piece for beginner and intermediate guitar players. [You’ll want to take note of the left hand fingering I use at 0:31 of the video. Using the 2nd fingers on top is the only to play that section fluidly.] Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:

The Theory of Everything is played in a drop D tuning. From low to high: D A D G B E.

You’ll then use a capo on the 2nd fret.
