Maya and the Three

Maya and the Three (Maya y los tres) is a Mexican animated miniseries on Netflix. The show is about a precocious and lively princess on a mission to fulfill an ancient prophecy and save humanity from the wrath of vengeful gods.

The music is by orchestrator, Tim Davies, and Gustavo Santaolalla. This is one of those score’s where Santaolalla writes a few guitar themes and an orchestrator builds around them. Some examples would be: Brokeback Mountain, and Things We Lost in the Fire.

Maya and the Three is an excellent show and my 6 year-old son LOVED it. Personally, I love this theme from Gustavo Santaolalla. The original Zats the Prince of Bats is 56 seconds long. I enjoy playing this so much that I extended and expanded on the theme.

How to play  Zats the Prince of Bats | fingerstyle guitar

The guitar tab for this theme is beautifully written across 2 pages. I recommend it for intermediate guitar players and up. Zats sounds great on acoustic and nylon-string guitars as well. I hope you enjoy playing this as much as I do! The guitar tab is available below:

Zats is essentially one long passage played through 2x. I given you the names of the chord shapes above the guitar tab to help you play the piece more efficiently. The speedy hammer-on lick is not that difficult — so long as you get your wrist low and underneath the neck.

Look at my positioning at 0:22. I’m underneath and ready to play the lick before I even start.
