Weapons

I wouldn’t have seen Zach Cregger’s Barbarian had it not been for the recommendation of a few friends. Upon first glance, the film seemed to be about a woman’s chance encounter with a psychopath. I felt like I had “the gist” and the movie seemed uninteresting. However, multiple friends swore to me that Barbarian swerves about halfway through — the entire premise of the film changes, and that the film is ton of fun.

Even after the recommendations, I still hadn’t watched it. It was only when I saw the creepy (early M. Night-ish) preview of “Weapons” that I became interested. My wife and I did watch Barbarian and it was just as good…and crazy as advertised. Every day since, has been a countdown to “Weapons”.

Barbarian was wild and funny movie, and that is exactly what Weapons is too. For some reason (maybe due to the early trailer) I was expecting an M. Night level of creeping dread. That did happen in some moments, but the film’s 2nd and 3rd act steadily dials up the Cregger craziness.

The musical score is from composer Ryan Holladay, his brother Hays Holladay, and Zach Cregger himself. The three grew up together in the suburbs of Washington DC and later moved to NYC where they founded the (now defunct) alt-rock band Sirhan Sirhan.

My favorite piece is the opening theme “Maddie”, where a young female classmate narrates the harrowing events that have unfolded within the town of Weapons.

The guitar tab for this arrangement is beautifully written across 2 pages. You’ll play it straight through without repeats. While this piece is best suited for intermediate guitar players — beginners can easily give this a shot as the song’s duration is just over one minute.

Enjoy! The guitar tab is available below:
