Unravel
“Unravel” is a breathtaking and emotionally profound song from Björk’s 1997 masterpiece album, Homogenic. While tracks like “Jóga” and “Bachelorette” often get the spotlight, “Unravel” is a quiet, stunning gem that showcases Björk’s unique artistry.
Homogenic is one of my favorite albums, and formative in terms of my musicality. Released in 1997 (when I was 20) — it preceded Radiohead’s ground breaking, Kid A, by 3 years! The vision and artistry of Björk defies belief.
The trick with adapting Unravel to fingerstyle guitar, is doing justice to Björk’s unusual vocal phrasing. I was able to create a simple arrangement — for what is a fairly complex song. Despite it’s vocal intricacies, the structure is very easy to comprehend.
