The First I Love You

The soundtrack of Stranger Things Season 3 the typical 80’s synth excellence we’ve come to expect from composers, Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein. “The First I Love You” is the track that resonated with me the most. I’m a sucker for a consistent melody over a straight up bass line.

How to play The First I Love You | fingerstyle guitar

If you’ve been following this blog at any point in the last 10 years, you know that I’m singularly obsessed with composer Gustavo Santaolalla’s ethos and minimalist guitar approach. When I begin an arrangement for guitar — I always put it through the prism of (what I believe) Gustavo Santaolalla would do. I love the way the piece turned out. It just flows.

The guitar tab for The First I Love You is beautifully written across on page. It’s a great piece for beginner and intermediate guitar players.

Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:

In accordance with the guitar tab, my song structure looks like this:

Intro 2x, Verse (latter half 3x) — Intro 2x, Verse (latter half 3x).

**Stranger Things (Season 3): The First I Love You | fingerstyle guitar

The First I Love You is played two whole steps down. My tuning is: C F A# D# G C. However, you could just as easily play it in standard tuning, or only slightly lower. It’s about the melody. Who cares about the tuning?
