A Game of Thrones spinoff has a new composer! Welcome, Dan Romer — you are totally awesome.
The soundtrack for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is inextricable from the show. The music feels like a hidden character or bard lending unspoken narration. The instrumentation is chamber-like in its delivery, punctuated by acoustic guitar and violin. It feels small, like a little village or hamlet — perfect for the setting of HBO’s latest Game of Thrones iteration.
The show itself is fantastic — light-hearted while still delivering the classic Game of Thrones violence and unexpected death scenes.
This piece, Leaving the Reach, stood out to me early on because of the acoustic guitar intro. I did my best to weave in some ghosting of the violin into the guitar part.
