The series is directly based on the iconic PlayStation game where —  in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a fungal pandemic, Joel, a hardened smuggler, is tasked with escorting Ellie, a 14-year-old girl who is immune to the infection, across the United States. The Last of Us HBO brilliantly casts stars Pedro Pascal as Joel, and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.
