127 Hours: How to play Touch of the Sun (guitar)

Posted on 28. Jul, 2011 by in Film Score, Free Tabs

With original music composed by A.R. Rahman,  the very “world” sounding 127 Hours embodies triumph and the human spirit. Rounding out the eclectic soundtrack are selections from Vladimir Ashkenazy (Nocturne No.2), Sigur Ros (Festival), and the final ‘If I Rise’ from Dido/A.R. Rahman.  Like all great scores (There Will Be Blood, Brokeback Mountain) the movie and music are inextricably linked.

Touch Of The Sun‘ is an interesting and sparse guitar piece with wide open space between each phrase. Tuned in Drop D,’Touch of the Sun’s slow tempo should allow you more than enough time to get into each of the unusual chords. The “hammer-on followed by a pull-off on the adjacent string” in the introduction chords was definitely a new move for me as well. The tab is available below. Enjoy!

Thanks for the tab Evan, I enjoyed playing this one, the slow tempo really went in my favour. Only got to try it today though since my high E string broke, snapped, ripped … whatever, again!!
Thank you for constantly putting up new stuff by the way, the name of this blog really suits it more and more!

I hate changing strings! It doesn’t get any easier with nylon strings either.

You’re welcome. I’m obsessed with my blog so I’m happy to do it!

Hi Mark and thanks for commenting! Yes I tab everything by ear. Check out Gustavo Santaolalla for slow fingerpicked stuff and dig around on this website, you mind find something else. Touch of the Sun seems to be popular and managble for the vast majority of guitar players so I’ll be looking for more songs like this for sure.

Great job Evan. Sounds amazing ! I was wondering if you could tab another piece from the same soundtrack called “Liberation begins” by any chance ?
    I would appreciate it.
    Thanks again for the tab.

You’re welcome. I’m sorry I can’t tab the other piece for you. Each post I do takes me at least 3 hours and I’m a full time guitar teacher so finding spare time time is difficult.
