The Deer

Written by Carter Burwell, The Deer, is the sentimental theme from Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. This theme is also known from the score as, My Dear Anne, and Can’t give up Hope. All three themes have a delicate guitar line as well as other instrumentation.

I like The Deer because (in a musical sense) I always gravitate towards “the heart” of a film. The Deer has a slow, deep, and woodsy tone to it. The melody and chord scheme is also compelling — as the bass notes trail the 3 note melody.

Carter Burwell, is best known for scoring all of the Coen Brothers films.
