Gustavo Santaolalla
First and foremost, Gustavo Santaolalla is a craftsman of music. Whether it’s Brokeback Mountain, The Last of Us, or The Book of Life — he perfectly adapts his music to every circumstance.

I’ve been a fan for a long time. After his score for Babel, there was a serious drought of Santaolalla’s film score work until the release of The Last of Us video game soundtrack. Since then Gustavo Santaolalla has released music every few months from August: Osage County, to his solo instrumental album, Camino.

If you’re interested (and rather then bury you in links) have a look around this blog. I have entire categories dedicated to Santaolalla’s music.

The Apology Song: an easy to play guitar song by Gustavo Santaolalla

The Apology Song, otherwise know as Si Puedes Perdonar, was instantly the most compelling guitar piece from The Book of Life soundtrack. If you’d like to see Gustavo Santaolalla play it, check out this YouTube video. The quality is poor, but his performance is awesome.

If you’re somewhat experienced at finger-picking, The Apology Song is deceptively easy to play. There are no difficult chord shapes whatsoever. However, this song sounds very sophisticated — so it will be a nice addition to the repertoire of beginner and intermediate guitar players.

The guitar tab is spread across three pages, and I’ve done my best to divide the tab according to chord shape. This makes it easy to read. I read the exact same tab in the video (in real time) so it’s imperative that the tab be perfectly clear.

If you’re new to this blog, take a look at my free guitar tabs. I’m always updating Intellimusica with free material, and it’s a great way to get acquainted with my style of writing tab.

Enjoy, the tab is available below:

The Apology Song is played in standard tuning with a capo on the 5th fret.
