“The wonderful thing about the creative process is that it connects you with an energy drive beyond the world. It allows you to go beyond time and space. This creative step is a place of enlightenment, of maximum energy where all notion of space and time is lost whatsoever.” Gustavo Santaolalla, Billboard.

Slow Dance

I wrote this song on a whim a few days ago.  I suppose I was thinking about a couple dancing as in the picture above. However, I imagined small town fair like we see in the movies. Maybe the setting is Montana, or Wyoming.

Like all of my songs, they happen quickly on a thread of inspiration. A flow state (also known as the zone) is a mental state in which a person is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus. This blog is really the only thing that puts me into a flow state, and that why I’ve relentlessly created material, week after week, for 7 years.

To paraphrase Gustavo Santaolalla quote from above, I do feel the song was already “there” in the ether, ready for me to channel it into existence. A creative flow state is truly what hooks you into the energy drive as Santaolalla put it. I’m totally addicted to it.

Slow Dance is available as a free High Quality download on SoundCloud. You can find all of my music here.

Gear Used

For Slow Dance I used my Cordoba GK Studio. It’s truly my best sounding guitar. My hope is to eventually have 2 or 3 of these on hand — and solely use GK Studio’s for my music, and the film score work on the blog.

How to play Slow Dance, a song for guitar by Evan Handyside

For the most part, Slow Dance is easy to play. You’ll need to be fairy agile for the section at 1:15 of the video, but play it as slowly as you’d like. My timing is free form, and you can do the same.

The guitar tab is beautifully written over two pages, and my order of play looks like this: Page one 2x, Page two — Page one 1x, End.

Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below. Slow Dance is played in standard tuning:
