I wrote Remembrance because I love invoking sentiment and nostalgia with music — though, for some reason, I hate sentiment and nostalgia in real life.

This winter, I’ve been thinking about my type-A, workaholic self — my real personality is literally the polar opposite of my music.

It occurs to me that music, especially the music I write, is soundtracking an imaginary life as I would like it to be. My goal for 2018 is to be more like my music, and relax.

The vibe of Remembrance harkens back to my love of Gustavo Santaolalla’s Brokeback Mountain score. I wanted to create something sweeping, yet subtle. Epic, yet minimal.

To me, this song is a lazy western. It makes me think of a Montana or Wyoming backdrop. The song is about loss, heartbreak, and the perseverance that follows.

Gear Used

For Brokeback Mountain 1, I used my Taylor GS Mini Mahogany. My strings are Martin Custom Light SP. The strings are very resonant — and the custom light size allows for easy lead playing too. For a list of my current gear, click here.

The guitar tab for Remembrance is beautifully and spaciously written across three pages. Overall I would characterize this song as easy to play. There are really no difficult chords to speak of.

Beginner guitar players have a slight but doable challenge, and intermediate level guitarists will be just fine.

Remembrance is essentially one long passage played twice between the |: repeat brackets :| followed by an end section.
