On Hallowed Ground

I wrote this song while thinking about the perseverance of a sports team against all odds. Which is essentially the personal story line of every team and athlete.

More specifically, a team with a legacy and expectation of winning. Maybe things are going to plan during the season? The obstacle is the way — and with experience and cool heads — my imaginary team emerges triumphant.

Post-Rock band, Explosions in the Sky, really laid the foundation for music in sports/drama films (with Friday Night Lights). I took inspiration from their work.

Gear Used

For On Hallowed Ground, I used my Cordoba GK Studio guitar. This is my best and most even sounding guitar. If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ve realized that this is the one I use in most of my videos.

Nylon string guitars can have finicky tuning and intonation issues. Not so with the GK Studio, it’s pretty much flawless every time. I only use another guitar when I’m forced to do so because of a weird tuning, etc.

My strings are Savarez Red Card. I play with my finger-tips (not nails) so the rectified nylon on the treble strings gives me a very secure feeling, bright tone. You can find a list of all of my gear here.

(Please subscribe to my YouTube channel which is the heartbeat of everything I do. Thank you!)

On Hallowed Ground is relatively easy to play, with the exception of a few chords in chorus section. Beginners may slightly struggle — while intermediate level guitar players will do just fine.

The guitar tab is 3 pages long and played straight through. As always, my hand-written guitar tabs are simple and easy to understand.

Enjoy – the guitar tab is available below. On Hallowed Ground is tuned: D A D G B D – from low to high. You’ll tune both E strings down to D.
