Gypsy Americana

My good friend Dr. Nathan Riley is an OB/Gyn based in San Diego, California. He just started a podcast for his profession called The OB/Gyno Wino Podcast. At least that’s the working title.

Of course he asked me to whip up an intro theme song, explaining the Gynecology is boring and that he intends to drink wine while recording his podcasts. Thus the “wino”.

This podcast idea is so campy that I immediately drew inspiration from Alexander Payne films like Sideways and Nebraska. Specifically Nebraska, where composer and multi-instrumentalist, Mark Orton, conjures a light-hearted music that was most accurately described (by Rich Osweiler of premier Guitar) as old-timey, Gypsy Americana.

How to play ‘An old-timey, Gypsy Americana guitar riff’ by Evan Handyside

I view this riff as easy and straightforward to play; a perfect riff for beginner fingerstyle guitar players. The guitar tab is two pages long and beautifully written. My order of play, in accordance with the guitar tab, goes like this: Intro, Verse, Turn-Around — Verse, Turn-Around — End (Page 2).

Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:

The OB/Gyno Wino Podcast theme is played in standard tuning.
