The Motorcycle Diaries: How to play — Sendero (Gustavo Santaolalla)

Sendero has been a favorite of mine for a long time. The Motorcycle Diaries score still remains Gustavo Santaolalla’s signature work and like De Ushuaia A La Quiaca and Leyendo En El Hospital, Sendero is one of the standout songs from the Santaolalla’s iconic soundtrack.

Tuned a full two and a half steps down (B E A D F# B), Sendero is fairly easy to play as there are no difficult chord shapes and the structure of the song is relatively simple.

If you’re a beginner guitarist, work on one stanza at a time, only moving on when you have mastered the first stanza to your satisfaction. The rest of the Sendero is similar — so mastering the first stanza will create a snowball effect for learning the song more quickly. If you’re a more experienced “practicing” guitarist, work on the song as a whole, slowly bringing your tempo up over time. Have fun, the tab is available below:

Thanks so much for this tab Evan. I remember you said it quite a while back that Sendero was still on your list to be tabbed for your blog. I’m so glad you still did it, it’s really so much fun to play. After having played it a few times now it’s working better and better and playing it just makes me happy right now, so thank you for that!

This music is wonderful! Thanks a lot for tabs!

Aren’t there any of “Jardin” or “De usuahia a la quiaca”?
Just can not find them anywhere.

Wow, that is tuning WAY down! I don’t really think my acoustic will like that very much… wont the strings get loose, and lose pitch all the time?

Yes they will, but you can always tune back up. Usually when one is tuned this low, you’ll try to use a heavy gauge string.
