James Newton Howard’s Healing Katniss is the last of the four guitar-centric songs from The Hunger Games¬†original score — and the most difficult.

These types of minutia oriented songs are difficult for me to memorize and comprehension is truly half the battle when learning anything.

Interestingly, the four Hunger Games posts track along very well from beginner to advanced level guitar playing. Here’s how I see them lining up as far as their relative difficulty:

The Hunger Games opening titles – beginner

The Cave – intermediate (4-6 months experience)

Rue’s Farewell – advanced (6 months to 1 year experience)

Healing Katniss is actually three guitar parts that I’ve combined into an all-in-one arrangement which is the reason for this song becoming slightly difficult to play.

The trouble for me was the subtle changes on literally every stanza that forced a few simple riff concepts to become a four page transcription. For whatever reason, this was the equivalent of a guitar playing buzz kill in the beginning. However, after a couple days of messing around with it, I was able to get a few good takes of Healing Katniss, and I did enjoy playing it too.

Good luck, the tab is available below:

Paul, a fellow guitarist, friend of this blog, and all around swell guy, has put together some pretty good looking tabs for my version of Healing Katniss:
