Lago Frías

I often create medleys and musical derivatives that I personally want to hear. Lago Frias (The Motorcycle Diaries) has always been one of my favorite guitar riffs from composer Gustavo Santaolalla. But, it’s only a riff.

With this arrangement, I’ve created a Motorcycle Diaries Medley beginning with Lago Frias and continuing with:

Partida del Leprosario,

La Partida,

and Leyendo en el Hospital.

Of course, all are from Gustavo Santaolalla’s venerable Motorcycle Diaries soundtrack, which is one of his greatest musical achievements. The music is so good. You can easily use it to soundtrack your own road trip — or just an evening glass of vino.

How to play Lago Frías | fingerstyle guitar

I would characterize Lago Frias as relatively easy to play — as none of the chord shapes are difficult. However, the guitar tab is three pages long, and some beginners might be a bit overwhelmed. I hope you enjoy playing this as much as I enjoyed creating it.

The guitar tab is available below:

As mentioned, the guitar tab is beautifully written across three pages. You play straight though until page three where you’ll see |: repeat brackets :|. Repeat those sections twice a each as indicated in the guitar tab.

**Gustavo Santaolalla: Lago Frías (and The Motorcycle Diaries Medley)

Lago Frias is played in an ultra low tuning: 2 and a 1/2 steps down — as is much of The Motorcycle Diaries soundtrack. Your guitar tuning is as follows from low to high: B E A D F# B. Or, depending on your tuner: B E A D Gb B.

You can just as easily play this in standard tuning. It will sound great.
