Chichina

I performed Chichina this blog about 7 years ago, however my audio quality was dated and not up to my current standard. I’ve been on a quest to redo the songs that inspire me to play guitar, and Gustavo Santaolalla’s Chichina is one of them.

In The Motorcycle Diaries, Chichina is Ernesto’s girlfriend — who he describes as having a narcotic allure. Unlike Ernesto, she is committed to a more conventional, upper middle class lifestyle. Eventually they part ways.

Chichina clarifies Ernesto’s belief system, as he must forgo a beautiful, seductive girlfriend that offers him essentially the perfect (but conventional) life.

How to play Chichina, by Gustavo Santaolalla

Chichina is very easy to play and perfect for beginner to intermediate guitar players. I love when Gustavo Santaolalla descends to the A-minor chord. The song captures the dynamic between Ernesto and Chichina perfectly.

The guitar tab for Chichina is two pages long and, as always, beautifully written. You’ll play the main passage twice. On the second go-around, you’ll follow the bent arrow to the next part. From there it’s Intro 1x, and End.

Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:

Chichina is played in standard tuning.
