The two most soulful guitar players on earth: Gustavo Santaolalla and Eric Clapton.

On Jan 31st 2017, King Crimson/Asia bassist, John Wetton passed away. On the same day, Eric Clapton posted a short, instrumental acoustic tribute on his Facebook page entitled, For John W……ec. You can see that FB post here.

In addition to being a fitting tribute to the world class, groundbreaking musician, John Wetton. For John W seemed very Gustavo Santaolalla-esque in it’s minimalist, soulful approach. If you’re a long time reader of this blog, then you know my affinity for both Eric Clapton and Gustavo Santaolalla. So naturally, I loved this piece.

I’ve also created a few acoustic and electric blues pieces in the style of Eric Clapton. You can find those videos and guitar tabs here.

You can find over 60 videos and guitar tabs for Gustavo Santaolalla’s minimalist film score pieces here.

How to play For John W, a tribute to John Wetton, by Eric Clapton

(Note: This is my premium material. Please join my email list to be updated on all of my latest guitar tabs.)

The guitar tab, For John W, is two pages long and played straight through, without repeats. If you’re not familiar with guitar tablature symbols, a / indicates to slide up towards the note, and \ indicates to slide down towards the note. Up is toward the higher frets, down is toward the lower frets.

Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:

For John W is played in a drop D tuning. Your tuning is as follows from low to high: D A D G B E — then you’ll place a capo on the 2nd fret.
