“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? (Who watches the watchmen?)”

― Juvenal

This is a fascinating, if not, totally depressing story. Here it is in a nutshell:

The FBI was obsessed with the Italian mafia. So, they colluded with the The Winter Hill Gang: a structured confederation of Boston, Massachusetts-area organized crime figures, predominantly Irish-American and Italian-American. The vicious leader of which — was James “Whitey” Bulger.

This collusion was much more than an informant relationship. Through the FBI, Whitey Bulger was basically able to wipe out his gangster competition — and completely control all of Boston’s organized crime.

The story is pretty murky, but James Bulger’s relationship with the FBI was apparently a quid pro quo. It looks like the FBI was actually on Whitey Bulger’s payroll — as the relationship was very secretive within the FBI.

Obviously this is massively frustrating to the people of Boston — even more so  — the victims of James Bulger’s brutality. The Department of Justice will go after people like Lance Armstrong without the consent of the American taxpayer — yet with the full weight of the American tax dollar. However, in this case, stones may never be unturned — intentionally.

If interested, I recommend the documentary, Whitey: United States of America vs. James J. Bulger. It’s a stranger than fiction telling of the collusion between the FBI and James Bulger.

How to play Take Care Kid, the final theme of Black Mass

Tom Holkenborg (DJ Junkie XL) is becoming one of my favorite composers. His Mad Max: Fury Road theme was great, and that also turned out well for guitar. Tom Holkenborg has a mastery of dark classical themes. His chord selection is unique, and because of that, his composition style is very distinct.

Take Care Kid is the final theme of Black Mass. It’s a gloomy, but also beautiful collection of chords. The guitar tab is only one page long — and for a classical piece, this is pretty easy to play.

I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did. The guitar tab is available below:

Take Care Kid is tuned one whole step down. Your tuning is as follows from low to high: D G C F A D.
