batman v superman[Update: I can’t find this on the the official score. So it seems as though this piece of music was created specifically for the Batman v Superman trailer — which is still very cool. However, I have arranged (what I believe) is the central theme of Batman v Superman. You can find that here.]

This Batman v Superman title theme is from the most recent extended trailer for the movie. This is more than presumably a central theme of Batman v Superman — because it sounds distinctly like a Hans Zimmer piece. In addition, the theme has a very epic ‘clash of titans’ tone to it.

When you look at any Hans Zimmer piece on guitar — it’s actually a basic chord progression. The je ne sais quoi of Hans Zimmer’s music is that he keeps the framework of the music pretty simple. People tend to latch onto his music the same way they would latch on to a pop song. Again, this is due to the simple structure.

For the solo guitar, I had to imagine an intellectual confrontation between Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne — rather than the firstacuffs of their alter-egos. Sometimes a guitar arrangement shouldn’t be an exact replica. For the Batman v Superman trailer theme, I visualized some type of James Bond and (villain) like meeting between Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne.

This thought experiment allowed me to calm down the arrangement into something more minimalist and melancholy.

If you enjoy this, be sure to check out my arrangement of Hans Zimmer’s Man of Steel theme. To this day, I believe it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. Zimmer’s music is perfect for a new Superman theme.

Hans Zimmer gets deserved credit, however man of Steel and Batman v Superman are both co-composed by Junkie XL (Tom Holkenborg). He composed the Mad Max: Fury Road score which is a blend of techno and classical music. I also arranged one of the central themes.

How to play the Batman V Superman trailer theme for classical guitar

This arrangement is very easy to play. Each section of the guitar tab is basically a chord shape. You won’t change shapes until you move to the next line.

Batman v Superman is played in  Drop D tuning — which means your Low E string will be tuned down to D. Enjoy! The guitar tab is available below:
