With Awaken, I just kept it simple, and followed the melody in my head. The reason for the title, is that I was taking an afternoon nap with my 2 year-old son, and literally dreamed the melody. I awoke, and ran to my office grab a guitar and sort it out.

If you like this song, it’s available as a HQ download on SoundCloud, along with all of my latest original music.

Gear Used

For Awaken, I used my Cordoba GK Studio guitar. This is my best and most even sounding guitar. If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ve realized that this is the one I use in most of my videos.

Nylon string guitars can have finicky tuning and intonation issues. Not so with the GK Studio, it’s pretty much flawless every time. I only use another guitar when I’m forced to do so because of a weird tuning, etc.

You can find all of my gear here.

How to play, Awaken, by Evan Handyside

Awaken is very easy to play. In fact, I created an archive for songs that are suitable for beginner guitar players. It’s aptly titled, Very Easy to Play.

The guitar tab for Awaken is a single page long, and as always, hand written beautifully. My order of play looks like this: Section # 1, Section #2 — Section #1, Section #2, Outro.

Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below. Awaken is played in a double drop D tuning. Your tuning will look like this from low to high: D A D G B D. You’ll then put a capo on the 7th fret:
