13 Reasons Why

Although I haven’t watched 13 Reasons Why — all of my teenage guitar students are talking about it, and it keeps popping up in my social news feeds. I figured if THIS MANY people are interested, I should probably check out the music.

The music is by Eskmo (Brendan Angelides) a Los Angeles based electronic music producer and composer. His song, Oh In This World of Dread, Carry On is used as the main title theme. The 13 Reasons Why cut is under 30 seconds so this arrangement is based on Eskmo’s original (longer) version.

Gear Used

For Oh In This World of Dread, Carry On, I used my Eric Clapton Strat (modded with MojoTone 58 QuietCoil pickups) a Vox AC10 amp, and my Walrus Warhorn medium gain drive pedal. The pedal adds compression while adding any texture of drive you’d like: slight Gustavo Santaolalla breakup, or Cream-era blues lead.

You can find a current list of my gear here.

How to play the opening theme of ’13 Reasons Why’ for guitar

This piece is relatively easy to play, but best suited for intermediate guitar players. The guitar tab is two pages long and beautifully written. If you’re new to this blog, you’ll like my minimalist approach to writing guitar tablature. It’s very easy to understand.

My order of play, in accordance with the guitar tab, goes like this: Intro 2x, Verse 2x, breakdown section — Verse 2x, End.

Enjoy, the guitar tab is available below:
