War for the Planet of the Apes

War for the Planet of the Apes

These movies are unbelievably good. Specifically the second installment, Dawn. [That movie was a perfect parable for the origin of political conflict — zealots on either side ruining peace for the whole.]

Here’s my guitar arrangement of the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes theme from 2014 — also by composer Michael Giacchino. Forgive my lack of audio/video quality — I’m obviously much improved now!

When Rise of the Planet of the Apes came out in 2011 (starring James Franco) I never imagined the sequels would keep getting better and better. I’m eager to see, War.

I picked the song Apes Together Strong from composer Michael Giacchino’s War for the Planet of the Apes score. That seems to me like the central musical theme of the movie, and I loved the simple chord progression and melody.

It gave me an opportunity to slowly build it’s majesty with more dense and emphatic chords.

Gear Used

For Apes Together Strong, I used my Cordoba GK Studio guitar. This is my best and most even sounding guitar. If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ve realized that this is the one I use in most of my videos.

You can find a list of all of my gear here.

Apes Together Strong does use a fairly stretched out chord shape at 0:08, and often throughout the song. Although the rest of the chord shapes are easy, I can’t recommend Apes Together Strong for beginner guitar players. It’s better suited for intermediate guitar players.

The guitar tab is beautifully written across two pages. In accordance with the guitar tab, my order of play looks like this: Intro, Section #1 2x, Section #1 Close — Section #2 3x, Section #2 Close, Section #4 4x — Section #1 Close.

Enjoy, this is one of my favorite pieces of 2017.

The guitar tab is available below:

Apes Together Strong is played in a double Drop-D tuning. Your tuning is as follows, from low to high: D A D G B D.
